27 Palestinians killed in Israel bombings in Gaza

Israel continued its air attacks on Gaza killing at least 27 Palestinians, including several leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement. More than 70 people have been injured as the Israeli military offensive enters its third day.

The killed include at least five children and five women. The Israeli military said it attacked 158 targets in Gaza while at least 523 rockets were launched towards Israel this week and 380 crossed into Israel, but air defences intercepted 96 percent of those.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad announced the death of Ali Ghali, commander of the group’s rocket launch unit, in a pre-dawn strike carried out by Israeli forces in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Israeli air strikes are continuing to target different parts of the Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip with more residential homes hit, Al Jazeera reported.

The offensive, dubbed by Israel as “Operation Shield and Arrow,” started on Tuesday with Israeli air strikes killing 13 people in overnight raids.
