The University of Hyderabad’s decision to prohibit help desks set by student organisations has left students fuming.
The student’s organisations like Ambedkar Students Association has been setting up these help desks since one and half decade. ASA initiated helpdesk in University of Hyderabad in the year 1993 aimed at assisting students from marginalized sections.
The UoH administration has not only banned the help desks and posters they have also sent a message to all the applicants that in case they avail the help of the Associations they will be disqualified.
UoH warns:
‘It has been noticed that various groups and organisations have put up posters and banners near entrance examination centers claiming to offer helpline on several aspects of admission. It is for the general information of the public and particularly applicants that the University has not authorised any agency or group to provide any form of helpline nor is such intervention permitted. The admission and provision of Hostels will be strictly in accordance with the admission criteria and procedure. Applicants are hereby requested to note claims made in such posters are misleading and intervention by any person with regard to any applicant by any group will automatically disqualify the candidate.’ University official website said
ASA responds:
University of Hyderabad administration has been operating in the most atrocious, illegal, Anti-Student & Anti-Dalit manner suiting the agenda of BJP led center in repressing the assertive voices from marginalized sections since assertions have become a threat for Brahmanical Hegemony.
The assertion of self-respect and propagation of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar by ASA led to the targeting of ASA and the institutional murder of Rohith Vemula by BJP led center in collusion with Podile Apparao, Vice-Chancellor, UoH.
Now presence of Ambedkar and Rohith Vemula on banners of ASA has become indigestible for Casteist UoH administration which forcefully and selectively removed ASA help desk banner first containing the images of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar and Rohith Vemula.
ASA initiated helpdesk in University of Hyderabad in the year 1993 aimed at assisting students from marginalized sections. The assistance is offered to tackle violations in reservation policy & rights of students by UoH administration.
Dr.B.R.Ambedkar is one of the tallest intellectuals of this country, but for casteist administration the presence of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar banner is affecting the sanctity of the university. UoH led by BJP henchmen ruthlessly removes assistance banners & helpdesk in the name of ‘Sanctity’ of Admission process.
It is hypocritical that the same administration which talks about sanctity of admissions was ripped apart by Hon’ble High Court of Telangana at Hyderabad for non-implementation of reservation policy, and these violations have been increasing in the past two years with the unconditional support being enjoyed by Podile Apparao from BJP led center.
Their sanctity of procedures is Brahmanical and unconstitutional. The university which never bothered to send messages to SC/ST/OBC applicants to bring their latest caste and income certificates has rather sent messages against the assistance offered by Ambedkar Students Association by saying: “Please note that no helpline as claimed by several posters near entrance test centers is authorized”.
And also even a note from PRO office on the same which gives more clarity on the issue that actions of Administration is a well-planned action to stop all kinds of Student Organizational activities in general and in particular the activities of independent Ambedkarite student organizations, which is nothing but a complete violation of Article 19 (1) (c) of Constitution of India which accords us right to form associations and unions.
As a student organization which follows the principles of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar to the core we shall fight against this autocratic, anti-student and undemocratic castiest decisions of the Administration.
