Kochi: 1 killed, dozens injured in blasts during Christian prayer meet

A series of blasts at a Sunday prayer convention of the Christian denomination Jehovah’s Witnesses killed one person and injured two dozen, a few of them critically, near Kochi in Kerala.

“The blast took place five minutes after the prayer session started. There was a series of blasts from the stage of the convention hall, which had around 2,000 people. The three-day convention began on Friday and was slated to be over on Sunday,” an eyewitness told the media.

Kerala Police said the blasts took place at around 9.30 am near the stage of the meeting during a prayer session.

The police have sealed the hall and began a probe.

Fire Force personnel have recovered the charred body of a woman and reported that the causalities are likely to go up.
