Witch-hunt by Central University of Kerala. Dalit scholar arrested on exaggerated charges

The student hunt in the Central University of Kerala continues with the unreasonable arrest of  Ganthoti Nagaraju, a Dalit Ph.D. scholar and an active member of Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) on exaggerated and false charges. Nagaraju, a Doctoral Researcher in Linguistics has been arrested and remanded in the sub-jail on charges of breaking the glass tiny window pane in the hostel.

‘ Nagaraju’s arrest and deliberately delaying bail were planned attempts to unleash the university’s anti-Dalit, anti-student policies following the same pattern of man-hunt they have carried out before.’ ASA, Central University of Kerala stated Nagaraju’s arrest as a deliberate Dalit student hunt by university officials.

‘The targeted attack usually begins with the autocratically disabling the student from attending classes, using the hostel, and above all, emotionally weakening them with preposterous allegations. Inquiry committees are namesake with clear biases evident in its report. Such man-hunt and abusive behavior of the university administration cannot be tolerated anymore. Silencing the dissent is a serious threat to the democratic nature of our university spaces. We strongly condemn the attack on Nagaraju and many others who criticise the fascist nature of the administration.’ Ambedkar Students Association said in an official statement.

Dalit fighter and Rohith Vemula’s mother Radhika Vemula urged the student organizations and the public in Kerala to stand with Dalit students and support them.  ‘Mr. Nagaraju is a very good person and Ambedkarite hails from Khammam, Telangana State. And he completed his Masters from HCU and actively participated in Rohith Vemula Institutional murder movement. The CUK administration couldn’t tolerate his straightforwardness and uncompromising character.’ Radhika Vemula said.
