An eight-year-old girl, who had gone missing a week ago, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, triggering protests.
“A minor girl missing for the past one week was found dead in Rasana village of Hiranagar tehsil of the district,” said a police official , greater kashmir reports.
Reports said that there were serious injuries on the face of the girl. The police has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case. “We have filed an FIR. A SIT has been constituted,” SD Jamwal, Inspector General of Police, Jammu, told NDTV.
Meanwhile, the family and the relatives of the girl staged a protest, demanding swift investigation into the case and arrest of the culprit.
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday expressed her anguish over the “gruesome” murder of eight-year-old girl. Outraged by the heinous incident in which a young Bakerwal girl has lost her life. Incidents like this will be investigated expeditiously & the guilty will be punished,” she said.
The opposition on Thursday staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly to protest against the murder. As soon as proceedings of the House began, Congress and NC legislators stood up to protest against the murder of the little girl of Kathua.
