The students at Jamia Millia Islamia were manhandled by the university’s proctorial team and the Rapid Action Force as they gathered on campus to express their solidarity with Palestine and protest against Israeli aggression in Gaza on Friday, October 13.

As students began their protest inside gate number 7 after Friday prayers, they were repeatedly disrupted by university officials and the RAF.

Security forces forcefully confiscated the Palestinian flag carried by the students as a symbol of solidarity.

Posters bearing slogans such as “Free Free Palestine,” “Jamia stands with Palestine,” and “From River to the Sea, Palestine will be free,” were also removed by university officials.

Huda Aysha, a JMI student, expressed, “What is happening in Gaza amounts to genocide, as Israel is depriving them of basic necessities like food, shelter, and water.” She further stated, “The Israeli government is endangering millions of lives in the Gaza Strip, which is a clear violation of humanity. That’s why we are protesting here.”

Asim Khan, National President of the Fraternity Movement, told Maktoob, “As students began to protest, there was a heavy presence of the Delhi Police outside the gate, and the RAF was present on the campus.”

“The RAF and the Jamia Proctorial Team, which manhandled the students, also threatened them not to participate in any protests, warning them of potential consequences,” said Khan.

He further stated, “Our stance on Palestine is clear: Palestinian resistance is a legitimate and necessary response to the long-standing historical and structural violence inflicted upon them.”

“We stand in support of the Palestinian cause and stand with the revolutionaries who exhibit unwavering commitment to resisting oppression,” he added.

The protest was called by Fraternity Movement, All India Students Association, Students Islamic Organisation of India, Dayar i Shaug Students Charter Jamia, and Mewati Students Union.
