‘Sudani from Nigeria’ director Zakariya Mohammed to get Mohan Raghavan Award

Zakariya Mohammed, debutant director of Sudani From Nigeria wins the Mohan Raghavan award for the year 2018.

Jury consisting of renowned film makers in Malayalam film industry including K G George, Mohan and John Paul chose Zakariya for the award in recognition of the meticulous precision and filmy clarity evinced in the film and for the unpretentious simplicity in visual narrative.

Sudani from Nigeria was released on 23 March 2018. It met with widely positive critical response and was a commercial success at the box office. The film was produced by cinematographers Sameer Thahir and Shyju Khalid and directed by Zakariya , with dialogues co-written by Muhsin Parari.  The film is about Samuel (played by Nigerian actor Samuel Abiola Robinson) and Majeed (Soubin Shahir), the manager of a football club who brings him down to play for his club.

The Award is instituted in memory of Mohan Raghavan, filmmaker, who was a very promising director in Malayalam cinema. He rose to fame with his debut movie TD Dasan Std 6 B. The movie was very well received by the local audience and won acclaim at many international film festivals. The director, with only his debut film under his name, met with an untimely death on 25 October 2011, aged just 47.

The award contains a cash prize of Rs.25,000/-, citation and memento which will be presented to Zakariya  in December.

Meanwhile , Sudani from Nigeria has been selected in the competition section of international film fest kerala 2018.
