Two students who protested against attack on Kashmiris arrested with sedition charges in Kerala

Two students of Government college Malappuram were arrested by Kerala Police on 21 February for sticking poster, protesting attack on Kashmiris by Sangh Parvar. Sedition charge is filed against students Rinshad and Muhammed Faris. They were called to police station for questioning and later arrested on the complaint filed by the principal of Government college, Malappuram. The students are members of Radical Left Forum. A native of Panthalloor, Rinshad is a second year B.com student.

The CPI-M central committee on Sunday had urged people not to attack innocent Kashmiris in the wake of the suicide bombing of a CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir and expressed serious concern at the attacks on students and people belonging to Kashmir which have taken place in different parts of the country. However, The one and only CPIM chief minister’s police has arrested and fied sedition charges against two students for protesting the same. The police is expected to take the students to Magistrate Court, Malappuram on 22 february.

Following Pulwama attack on Indian soldiers, Kashmiris across the main land are faced with abuse and harassment. Kashmiris in various parts of the country were reported to have been harassed or intimidated in retaliation against the attack, prompting the Union home ministry to issue an advisory all states to ensure safety and security of the students and people from Jammu and Kashmir living in their areas. In Dehradun, Kashmiri students were harassed and forced to flee back to their home state. A senior faculty member of Kashmiri origin has been dismissed from his post.

Fearing for their lives, many Kashmiris who had gone to work and study in different parts of the country, are now streaming back to the Valley.
