Harrassment from SFI: Kerala girl who attempted suicide quits college

A woman student in University college, Thiruvananthapuram had previously made a suicide attempt due to the mental harassment she faced from Students Federation of India (SFI) members on the campus. The student said that she was unable to continue her studies in the college and that the circumstances forced her to apply for the trasfer certificate.

The Registrar of Kerala University had given the student permission to study in SN college, Varkala. Her course is BSc Chemistry. Principals from both colleges had given permission for intercollege transfer and the university syndicate ratified the order.

The student who attempted suicide in early may was hospitalized and was taking rest at home. The woman had stated in her suicide note that the harassment she faced from SFI members prompted her act. However, following the registration of a case against her for suicide attempt, the woman refused to voice any further complaint. An enquiry has been going on in college level regarding the issue. The SFI in University college is notorious for its treatment of students and dissent.
