President Ram Nath Kovind to address joint session of Parliament today

President Ram Nath Kovind will address a joint sitting of Parliament in the Central Hall at 11 am today.

Senior Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on Wednesday said the party’s leader Tejashwi Yadav might be in England watching the men’s cricket World Cup. He was responding to a question about Yadav’s whereabouts at a time Bihar is dealing with an encephalitis breakout that has claimed the lives of at least 127 children, and a heatwave in which 90 people have been killed in three districts.

The Congress on Wednesday described the deaths of children in Bihar due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) as a “national tragedy,” saying that the Centre and state government were insensitive and unprepared.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “What is happening today in Bihar is a national tragedy and national horror as over 150 children have died. The perpetrators of this tragedy is the state and the Central government,” reports IANS.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted in Hindi: “In 2014, 139 children were killed in Muzaffarpur. In 2019, 104 children killed in Muzaffarpur. Same minister, Shri Harsh Vardhan, same reasons, same promises, no work, all talk.”

The Congress demanded coordination between the Centre and the state government to deal with the AES and advised to make a road map to rid the state of the malaise.
