Muslim League protests on lynchings and NRC at Jantar Mantar

To protest against BJP’s Hindu Nationalist agendas, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) organized a public gathering in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.

Criticizing the BJP and RSS for dividing the country, activists and parliamentarians of IUML said that current government is responsible for vitiating the atmosphere in the country through mob lynching and National Register of Citizens in Assam.

The protest at Jantar Mantar saw people who had come in from various parts of the country.

Jharkhand lynching victim Tabrez Ansari’s wife Shahista Parveen, Shweta Bhatt , wife of Sanjiv Bhatt IPS , the Gujarat-cadre IPS officer who took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the 2002 Gujarat genocide and in June was sentenced to life imprisonment in a 30-year-old custodial death case and Dr. Kafeel Khan addressed the gathering.

“The Supreme Court of India had stated that a law should be made by the Parliament to prevent mob lynching. Unfortunately, the government has not come forward to make such a stringent legislation. This is one of the reasons for repeat of such kind of things. The government should take some bold stand on it. On the other hand, what they are doing is that they take at as an easy thing. In a way this is a government-engineered thing happening in our country,” said IUML Lok Sabha MP ET Mohammad Bashee Basheer, who represents Kerala’s Ponnani constituency.

Denouncing the NRC process in Assam, Malppuram Lok Sabha MP PK Kunhalikutty said, “The NRC process in Assam was done to hound the Muslims. It was to ensure that Muslims are stripped of their citizenship. They want to create another class of citizens.”
