An Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student and three others were booked by Aligarh police on Saturday for making social media comments on the Ayodhya verdict.

Confirming this, Aligrah superintendent of police Arvind Kumar told media that four people identified as Aligarh student Aaquib Khan, Asif Idress, Mudabbir Ali Chaudhary and Md Abdullah Azam have been booked under Section 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) of IPC and section 67 IT Act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

The certain comments are “derogatory” on the Ayodhya verdict, police officer said.

Total 58 tweets and 23 Facebook posts were found inappropriate by police and they are under observation, Arvind Kumar told Times of India.

He said that if required, police will register FIR against them too. He added that while a few people have deleted the posts after police intervention, still many are yet to delete them.

Apart from the 77 arrested, the police have also registered 34 cases. Of these, 22 FIRs were lodged and 40 persons arrested in the past 24 hours.
