Citizenship Bill: Amit Shah effigy burnt in Kerala

Students have set fire to an effigy belonging to Home Minister Amit Shah in Kerala on Tuesday to register their vehement protest against the religion-based Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

The students of Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, under the banner of Fraternity Movement, gathered with the effigy of the Home Minister inside the campus and set it on fire by raising slogans.

After Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday introduced the Bill in the Lok Sabha, various political organisations, students and activists staged massive protests across the country against the bill and termed it as unconstitutional and anti Muslim.

Amid strong protests from opposition, the Lok Sabha Monday passed the Bill with 311 votes in favour. 80 MPs voted against the Bill.

The bill proposes to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslims who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015.
