CAA: 2 lakh Muslims take out rally in Kochi

Around two lakh Muslims under the banner of 13 Muslim organizations on Wednesday took out a rally and gathering to voice their anger and protest to the ‘anti-Muslim’ Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Kochi in Kerala.

The protest was organised by a coordination committee of Muslim organisations including Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, Kerala Muslim Jamaat, Jamaat-e-islami , Dakshina Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen, KNM Markazuda’wa, Muslim League, KMEA, MES, MSS, Wisdom Islamic Organisation, Ernakulam District Jamaat Council, and Mahal Coordination Committee.

The massive protest was inaugurated by Panakkad Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, state president of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

The leaders of Muslim organisations participated in the protest programme claimed that CAA targeted Muslim community and it violated the spirit of the Constitution.

Narendra Modi government’s move had plunged the country into apprehensions, said the leaders. 

Senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan and Jignesh Mevani, dalit activist and Gujarat MLA, were the chief guests at the event.
