Mayawati asks UP CM Yogi to seek apology for sending CAA protesters to jail

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leaders including party supremo Mayawati will be meeting the U.P governor over the arrest of innocent in Anti CAA protest.

BSP will send a letter to the Governor seeking a judicial inquiry into the entire episode. “A delegation would give the letter of our demands to the Governor at Raj Bhavan on January 6 at 11 am,” Mayawati said in a tweet.

Mayawati demands the release of innocents and compensation for those who lost their family members in the protest. She on Sunday asked the state government to seek apology from the public for putting those protesting in anti-citizenship law demonstrations behind bars without thorough investigation.

In a tweet, the BSP chief said, “In Uttar Pradesh, especially in Bijnor, Sambhal, Muzzafarnagar, Meerut, Firozabad and other districts, innocent people have been sent to jail for protesting against the CAA/NRC without an investigation. This issue has also been raised by the media and is highly shameful and condemnable.”

The four-time Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also urged the Yogi government to “provide justifiable financial assistance to the kin of those who have died during the protests.”
