‘Delhi Police zindabad,’ shouts man who fires at Jamia students

An unidentified man shot a protesting student of the Jamia Millia Islamia at an anti-CAA march at Jamia area in Delhi on Thursday.

The miscreant who has now been taken into custody, shouted ‘who wants azadi’ before opening fire, videos show.

The incident took place when students of Jamia Millia Islamia, were marching towards Rajghat to hold a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens.

Shadab Najar, the injured student has been rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Jamia area. Shadab, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir is a student of Jamia Millia’s Mass Communication and Research Centre.

The march, from Jamia to Raj Ghat, was organised by Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC).

The attacker shouted ‘who wants azadi‘ before opening fire at the March.

The miscreant also shouted ‘ Yeh lo azaadi…Hindustan zindabad…Delhi Police zindabad ‘ before opening fire, videos show.

Kisko chahiye azadiMain dunga azadi [Who wants freedom? I will give freedom],” he reportedly said.

“The man, dressed in a black jacket and carrying a gun, standing meters away from hundreds of policemen deployed outside the university, where we had gathered for our march, ” a protesting student told Maktoob.

Soon after shooting, the miscreant has been taken into custody.

He has identified himself as Gopal, police officers say.
