CAA protest in Rajasthan: Walled City’s Shaheen Bagh enters its 14th day

The indefinite sit-in against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) at Shaheed Smarak in Rajasthan’s Jaipur entered 14th day on Thursday.

Over 200 Muslim women have been holding non-stop protests in the third round-the-clock sit-in protests in Rajasthan.

Inspired by Delhi’s historic protest by Muslim women in Shaheen Bagh, the Shaheed Smarak protest continues under the banner of Samvidhan Evum Loktantra Bachao Abhiyan, a body formed by Muslim groups to raise their collective voice.

Like Shaheen Bagh protest, women have taken the lead in protests at the site, situated just outside the Police Commissioner’s office.

Every day there are speeches, lectures and Shayari (poetry) at the Walled City’s Shaheen Bagh. Musical and cultural events were held and various artists performed in solidarity with anti-CAA protest.

The area has been visited by numerous Muslim activists, Dalit leaders, local politicians, activists, and students from central and state universities.

Many Dalit groups join the protest. On Sunday, the protesters celebrated the birthday of Guru Ravidas, the legendary Dalit spiritual leader.

Mohalla committees and civil society groups distribute for the protesters.

‘Policemen tried to provoke us by repeatedly cautioning protesters of capturing everything and taking strict action if any rule is violated. But we will continue our protest. Let them record every moment. We want them also as listeners. Let the policemen also join this protest,’ a woman protester told Maktoob.
