My father Malcolm X continues to inspire people today: Ilyasah Shabazz

Ilyasah Shabazz was just 2 years old when her father Malcolm X was gunned down at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem on Feb. 21, 1965, in front of his wife and children.

“My father not only posed a challenge to others who would, unfortunately, be envious of his intellect, of his commitment, of his righteousness but also to world powers who really could care less about their citizens for their own personal greed,” Ilyasah Shabazz on the 55th anniversary of the assassination of her father, told Democracy Now.

Ilyasah is now a criminal justice professor at John Jay College, a community organizer, motivational speaker, activist, and award-winning author.
