After hours of massive search, body of missing Kerala girl found in river

Despite all the prayers and efforts of thousands of people, missing 6-year-old Kerala girl Devananda’s body has been found on Friday morning. Her body was found at Ithikkara lake nearby her home in Elavoor in Kollam district.

Diving experts retrieved her body from Ithikkara River that flows close to her home.

Devananda was a Grade 1 student at Saraswathi Vidya Nikethan School in Kollam.

Hundreds of people had been searching for her at Kollam district and thousands including all politicians and celebrities had shared updates by the minute in social media.

Besides police, fire and rescue personnel, and local residents, several social media users across the state were tried to find Devananda aka Ponnu, daughter of Pradeep Kumar and Dhanya.

In her complaint to the police, Dhanya said Devananda had been missing since 10.15am on Thursday. The girl had followed her mother when the latter went to wash clothes near their house. The mother, however, asked the girl to go back.

Dhanya told police that she had seen the girl entering the house, but found the front door open and the girl missing on her return. “My daughter is not used to going and playing in the neighbouring houses. I have no reason to doubt anyone,” Dhanya earlier told police. The girl’s father is employed in Muscat.
