Young Adivasi scholar Abhay Xaxa dies

Adivasi scholar and activist Abhay Flavian Xaxa died unexpectedly Saturday from a heart attack. Abhay, 37, received PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University

Abhay Xaxa was born and brought up in Jashpur District of Chhattisgarh.

An Adivasi Rights Activist and Sociologist by training, Abhay has worked with grassroots organisations, campaigns, NGO’s, media, research institutions in different capacities on the issue of Adivasi land rights in central India.

He was also the National Convenor at National Campaign on Adivasi Rights.

His columns have appeared in various publications, including FirstPost, IndiaSpend, Dalit Camera and Adivasi Resurgence.

Abhay has worked as the Higher Education Campaigner focusing on caste discrimination experienced by Dalit and Adivasi students.

He was the first Adivasi to receive the Ford Fellowship to go study abroad.
