Mumbai Police questions Arnab Goswami for over 12 hours

Republic TV co-founder and anchor Arnab Goswami was on Monday interrogated for close to 12 hours in connection with the FIR registered against him earlier this month.

Goswami was grilled over his inflammatory comments against Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

He was interrogated at the NM Joshi Marg Police station.

Goswami was booked by the Sadar Bazaar police in Nagpur for making inflammatory statements against Sonia in a debate that he chaired on his channel following the Palghar lynching.

More than 100 FIRs were registered against Goswami for spreading communal hatred, inciting violence, and defaming Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The FIR, on the Supreme Court’s instructions, was transferred to the NM Joshi Marg police station, in whose jurisdiction he stays.

FIRs were registered under sections 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 153 (giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153 A (attacks upon the religion, race, language etc), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) 298 (uttering, words with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings), 500 (punishment for defamation) 505 (intent to incite clash between communities) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Demanding arrest of the pro-Hindutva journalist, several Congress leaders including cabinet ministers lodged FIR against Goswami.
