Maharashtra: Train runs over 17 migrants, all dead

At least seventeen migrant workers were run over by a goods train in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district around 5 this morning.

The workers were returning to Madhya Pradesh, news agency PTI reported quoting an official.

The workers had been walking along the tracks. Then they slept on the tracks, the official said.

The labourers were working at an iron factory in Jalna and were headed back to Madhya Pradesh amid the coronavirus lockdown, according to a news agency.

The goods train was running between Jalna and Aurangabad.

According to News18, the workers were walking all the way from Jalna to Bhuvasal to catch a train to return home, and had stopped near the track to take rest after covering a distance of around 35 km.

“RPF and local police are reaching spot to asses the situation. More details awaited,” ANI quoted Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of South Central Railway (SCR).
