Sombura Madkami, a 14-year-old Christian boy, a member of converted Christian family was crushed to death with stone by a Hindutva group in Odisha’s Malkangiri.

As per the First Information Report, the boy and his family including his father had adopted Christianity three years ago. Since then, a group of people who are associated with Hindutva groups has been harassing them.

The incident took place at Kenduguda village in Malkangiri district of Odisha.

Sombura’s family members told the police that few villagers identified as Deba Madkami, Budra Muchaki, Aaita Kabasi, Rabu Madi and others picked up his son to attend a meeting in the jungle at 11.00 pm on June 4.

On the next day, Sombura’s father had filed an FIR.

“The police reached the spot and recovered the buried body, The body was chopped into pieces and later they buried the body parts before fleeing from the spot,” after receiving a complaint, Malkangiri Police SP Rishikesh Khillar says.

The accused captured Sombura and the two other Christians. However, the two other Christians were able to escape their captors before they were taken to the jungle.

Christian leaders claim Sombura was murdered by religious extremists who had been harassing Christians in Kenduguda village for years.

According to local Christians, hindutva mobs had been harassing their community for several years prior to the murder.

Pastor Bijay Pusuru, from Bethel House Church located in Kenduguda, claims extremists had restricted church activities and issued death threats against Christian families who continued to attend church. Pastor Pusura claims police and village leaders did little in response to these incidents.

A Christian man in the state was found beheaded in February this year. Anant Ram Gand, age 40 was brutally murdered because of his conversion to Christianity.
