Nearly 2 lakh COVID-19 cases, WHO reports largest single-day increase

The World Health Organization has reported the largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases by its count, at more than 183,000 new cases in the latest 24 hours.

The WHO says Brazil led the way with 54,771 cases tallied and the United States next at 36,617.

Over 15,400 coronavirus cases came in in India.

Rising case counts can reflect multiple factors including more widespread testing as well as broader infection, many health experts say.

Worldwide, at least 8.75 million people have been confirmed to have the coronavirus, more than 4.3 million have recovered, and more than 464,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
