Coronavirus: Global cases near 14.5 million

Nearly 14.5 million people have been tested positive for coronavirus worldwide so far, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker, which relies on official government data.

More than 8.1 million people have recovered so far.

United States’ tally goes up to 37,62,081 with 63,872 new cases in the last 24 hours while Brazil reports 23,529 new cases taking the total to 2,098,389. 

India reported 40,425 new cases of the coronavirus, taking the total to 11,18,043.

Death toll

The number of deaths from the novel virus around the world has surpassed 605,000, with the United States the worst-affected country.

The US tops the list with over 140,000, followed by more than 78,000 in Brazil.

Europe as a continent has seen about 200,000 deaths till the date.

The toll in India rose by 681 to 27,497.
