Africa surpasses one million coronavirus cases

More than a million people across Africa have now been confirmed to have had the new coronavirus.

Health experts warned the peak of the pandemic has yet to hit the continent.

South Africa, most hit in the continent, confirmed 7,292 new cases of COVID-19 Friday bringing the total to 545,476, according to the nation’s health minister.

South Africa is the fifth most-affected country in terms of COVID-19 infections.

The World Health Organization (WHO) sent health experts Wednesday to support virus response management in Africa’s most advanced economy.

At least 19.1 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, while the global death toll crossed 716,000. More than 11.6 million have recovered.
