33 MLAs, 4 MPs infected with COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu

Thirty-three MLAs including five ministers, and four MPs from Tamil Nadu have so far contracted the coronavirus, Deccan Herald reported.

They were actively involved in meeting people and distributing aid to the needy during pandemic contained lockdown in the state.

Besides, two district collectors and nearly 2,000 police officers in Tamil Nadu have contracted the virus since mid-March.
One DMK MLA, J Anbazhagan died of the infection.

Among MLAs 16 each are from the ruling AIADMK and main opposition DMK, one belongs to the Congress.

Of the MPs, two are from Congress, one from DMK and CPI. MPs are Karti P Chidambaram and H Vasanth Kumar (Congress) Ramalingam (DMK) and Selvarasu (CPI).

Maintaining the steep ascent, Tamil Nadu’s COVID-19 tally touched 349,654 on Wednesday as 5795 more cases were added in the last 24 hours.

The death toll went down marginally with 116 people succumbing to Covid-19 as opposed to 121 people on Tuesday.

The State has reported 6123 deaths due to the infection so far, the state bulletin confirmed.

India’s coronavirus tally rose to 28,36,925 on Thursday morning as 69,652 new cases were reported in 24 hours. The toll increased by 977 to 53,866. There are now 6,86,395 active cases, while as many as 20,96,664 people have been discharged after undergoing treatment so far.
