Bloomsbury withdraws book on Delhi pogrom launched by hate peddlers including Kapil Mishra

Bloomsbury Books India announced that it is withdrawing an upcoming book on the Delhi anti-Muslim violence that has courted controversy, especially after it was announced that BJP leader and hate peddler Kapil Mishra who had made an incendiary speech targeting anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters before the anti-Muslim violence broke out in North East Delhi, would be the guest of honour at the book launch.

“Bloomsbury India had planned to release Delhi Riots 2020: The Untold Story in September a book purportedly giving a factual report on the riots in Delhi in February 2020, based on investigations and interviews conducted by the authors. However, in view of very recent events including a virtual pre-publication launch organized without our knowledge by the authors, with participation by parties of whom the Publishers would not have approved, we have decided to withdraw publication of the book. Bloomsbury India strongly supports freedom of speech but also has a deep sense of responsibility towards society,” reads the statement by publishers.

Earlier, Bloomsbury India was fiercely criticised on social media after several Twitters users shared a purported advertisement of its book launch, featuring Mishra and the authors of the book.

Authors who have published with Bloomsbury India in the past, also expressed their outrage over the book and said the book is a propaganda against the Muslim community.
