Recently, a video of a protest rally posted by Pakistani-Canadian writer Tarek Fateh on Twitter read “This is not Karachi, Kashmir or Kerala. No, this chant of “Islam Zindabad” is being raised in Kolkata, the capital city of #MamataBanerjee-ruled #WestBengal !.” The video went viral on social media instigating anger against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Fateh, on Friday evening, apologized and deleted the video after being told the video was fake by the Kolkata Police.
Facebook users sharing the video with the caption “This is Bengal. Muslims says we will take over everything. Thanks to Secularism.”
A Bangla song can also be heard behind that viral video. However, this tweet has been deleted but its archive can be seen here.
Maktoob did a fact check and found that the protest procession seen in the 2017 video was a protest against the killing of Rohingyas in Myanmar.
The leaders and activists of the organization started marching to encircle the Myanmar embassy in Dhaka under tight police guard. Later, the police stopped them at the Shantinagar intersection. In the video, the Bangladeshi flag can be clearly seen in the protester’ hands.
The viral video is available on the YouTube channel “Spice Infotube”. The video was uploaded on 13 September 2017.
