Turkey seeing second peak of coronavirus outbreak

Turkey is going through the second peak of the first wave of the COVID-19, the country’s health minister said on Wednesday, amid a rapid rise in the number of daily cases and deaths.

According to news agency Anadolu Agency, as many as 1,596 more cases were reported in the country over the past 24 hours, bringing the overall count to 273,301.

 Turkey’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said a total of 29,865 health workers have so far contracted the virus and 52 of them lost their lives.

Total recoveries in Tureky stood at 246,876, the data showed.

According to Health Ministry data, the capital Ankara has the highest number of confirmed cases in Turkey. The total number of cases in the city is two times more than the number of cases in Istanbul.

The latest data from Johns Hopkins University shows more than 25.8 million people around the world have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and 859,159 have died. More than 17 million people have recovered.
