Delhi Police’s actions are a direct outcome of politics of BJP’s top leadership: Yechury

Delhi Police’s “illegitimate, illegal actions are a direct outcome of the politics of BJP’s top leadership,” CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said hours after the Delhi Police has named Yechury, Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav, economist Jayati Ghosh, lawyer Mehmood Pracha, Delhi University professor and activist Apoorvanand and documentary filmmaker Rahul Roy in a supplementary chargesheet filed in connection with its probe into the Northeast Delhi violence in February.

Yechury named in the “disclosure statement” of accused anti-CAA activist and an MBA student in northeast Delhi Gulfisha Fathima as “provoking and mobilising the crowd” against Citizenship Amendment Act at Jafrabad anti-CAA protest sit-in.

Yechury took to Twitter and said that the Delhi Police is under the Centre and Home Ministry.

“Its illegitimate, illegal actions are a direct outcome of the politics of BJP’s top leadership. They are scared of legitimate peaceful protests by mainstream political parties and are misusing state power to target the Opposition,” he added.

“Hate speech videos by those who instigated violence which led to death of 56 persons in Delhi are on record. The person who led violent mobs in JNU is also on video. The BJP govt& Delhi Police under it can’t see those because it is hell bent upon destroying our democracy…” he said.

The chargesheet, filed in a Karkardooma court by the Crime Branch, was against Pinjra Tod members Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal and community organizer from Jaffrabad Gulfisha Fathima in connection with the violence at Jafrabad where an anti-CAA sit-in was held.
