Arrest of Umar Khalid sparks protest in Jaipur

The student community of Jaipur, on Tuesday, protested the arrest of student leader Umar Khalid in Delhi pogrom conspiracy case. Dozens of protestors gathered at Gandhi Circle in Jaipur shouting slogans and raising demand to release political prisoners.

Political leaders and civil group representatives addressed the gathering which demanded to revoke India’s terror law, UAPA. Umar Khalid is the latest in 17 people arrested for the conspiracy, Delhi police say, led to Delhi pogrom.

Addressing the gathering, CPI Leader, Mrs Nisha Siddhu said that Umar Khalid is being framed for his opposition to policies of Modi government. She said that the Modi government fears to answer questions of youth regarding economy and employment.

She said that the Modi government has forced us to come out on streets for protesting in this time, whatever happen next will be the responsibility of Modi government itself.

Social activist, Mr Rashid Hussain while addressing the gathering said that Modi government is using pandemic as a tool to silent leaders who were actively involved in Anti CAA & NRC Movement.

“While real perpetrators of Delhi pogrom like of Kapil Mishra, Pravesh Verma and Anurag Thakur are roaming free, police are framing young minds and booking them under terror laws and sedition for mere protesting and disagreeing with government,” Hussain pointed out.

He also said that they do not fear to get arrested, even if they have to go jail then they will go with their smiley faces.

State president of Rajasthan Samgra Seva Sangh, Mr Sawai Singh, Aafaque Ansar from Students Islamic Organisation and Ritansh Aazad from AIRSO attended the protest.

Mukesh Nirwasit, an activist from Jaipur, critiqued CM Ashok Gehlot and said that Congress must understand its duty and stand by the people of India.

Khan Iqbal, a journalist from jaipur said “Indian jails has been converted into the ‘detention centres’ for the vocal voices such as students and intellectuals who are bravely fighting against unconstitutional moves of BJP government.”

Known CAA activists like Sharjeel Imam, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Devangna Kalita, Natasha Narval, Meeran Haider, Safoora Zargar, Khalid Saifi, Ishrat Jahan and Gulfisha Fatima are among the arrested prior to Umar Khalid.

“This government fears by students who raises their voices against the government’s disaster policies.” Iqbal added.
