Bhim Army Chief and Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad gave a call to assemble at Jantar Mantar at 5 pm on Friday from where they would start marching towards India Gate.
“The police has closed down the entire India Gate, showing dictatorship. But we will not let the demand for justice be weakened. Modiji will have to answer on the situation of Uttar Pradesh. Friends please reach Jantar Mantar at 5 o’clock, and the march toward India Gate will be taken out from there,” Azad tweeted in Hindi.
The Aam Aadmi Party, which rules Delhi, will hold a candle-lit protest at Jantar Mantar.
Delhi police earlier said that no gathering is allowed around India Gate due to the imposition of Section 144 CrPC. They also said that gathering of up to 100 people is permissible at Jantar Mantar and that too with the prior permission of the competent authority.
The announcement comes in the light of protests that were planned at the India Gate against the death of a 19-year-old girl who was raped by upper-caste Hindu men in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh.
