COVID-19: Kerala ranks third in country in active cases after Maharashtra and Karnataka

India’s coronavirus tally crosses 6.8 million mark with a spike of 78,524 new cases and 971 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Country’s total case tally stands at 68,35,656 including 9,02,425 active cases, 58,27,705 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 1,05,526 deaths, said Union Health Ministry.

India’s recovery and fatality rates are 85.25% and 1.54%, respectively.

11,94,321 samples tested for COVID-19 yesterday. Total 8,34,65,975 samples tested in the country up to 7th October, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Kerala recorded more than 10,000 new coronavirus cases today, the highest single-day count for the state so far.  The total number of infections rose to 2,51,405. The toll increased to 906 with 22 more deaths. 

Kerala ranks third in the country in active cases — 92,246 — after Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Kerala ministers MM Maniand K T Jaleel tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday. With this, five members of the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet have so far been infected by the virus. 

The known number of COVID-19 infections worldwide has passed another milestone, with more than 36 million cases registered on the Johns Hopkins University tracker. The global death toll is 1,054,674.
