Veteran Dalit leader, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan passes away

Veteran Dalit leader, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party patron Ram Vilas Paswan passed away on Thursday.

He was unwell for sometime and had recently undergone a heart surgery in a Delhi hospital.

Chirag Paswan, his son informed about the sad demise of his father on Twitter.

Miss you papa, Chirag Paswan tweeted while informing about his the leader’s demise.

The current Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan had been in active politics for more than five decades and was one of the country’s most noted Dalit leaders.

Pawan was elected as MLA for the first time in 1969. In 2019, he finished 50 years in political life.

LJP founder served as minister in cabinets of five former Prime Ministers.

“I am very sorry to hear the sad news of Ramvilas Paswan’s demise. The relationship of the last 45 years and all the social, political battles fought with him is flashing before my eyes,” said RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

“Deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Ram Vilas Paswan Ji. He was a veteran politician, leader and a long-time Parliamentarian. My condolences to his family, colleagues and his many admirers,” says Mamata Banerjee, condoling Paswans demise.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi expressed their condolences on the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan over phone call with the later minister’s son Chirag Paswan.
