Cancel bank officers recruitment, stop snatching reservation from SC, ST, OBCs: MP Thirumavalavan

Led by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) patron and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan, VCK Tamilnadu state committee on Friday staged a protest against the recruitment notification by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).

According to the recent recruitment notification issued by IPBS, OBC, SC, ST quota has been reduced to accommodate the 10 percent EWS quota.

While urging the Centre to intervene and stop the IPBS recruitment process, Thirumavalavan said the notification was aimed at providing 10% reservation in jobs to the economically weaker people of the general category.

According to IPBS notification, the quota for OBC, SC, and ST candidates has been reduced from 49.5 to 40 percent, while maintaining the open category tally at 50 percent. 21 percent was earmarked for OBCs against the statutory requirement of 27 percent. Under the SC category, 13 percent was reserved while the statutorily mandated reservation is 15 percent and under the ST category, 6 percent was reserved while the statutorily mandated reservation is 7.5 percent. However, 10 percent of the total vacancies have been allotted for EWS.

“If the Centre implemented this notification the OBC, SC and ST candidates would lose their opportunity,” the vocal Dalit politician added.

The reservation policy was against those belonging to the OBC, SC, and ST communities, he added.

Thirumavalavan who accused the Narendra Modi government of involving in tampering the reservation policy said the PM must resign.

Parties Congress, CPI, CPI(M), MDMK, MMK, and DK also participated in the demonstration in solidarity.
