BJP local leader arrested for duping people by promising govt jobs in Assam

Rajeev Parashar

A BJP local leader in Assam, Rajeev Parashar was arrested on Saturday for duping people on the pretext of providing them government jobs in various state departments.

The Crime Branch of Guwahati Police said it registered a case for fraud and other related charges against Parashar.

According to the police, the saffron party activist used to collect money from candidates, assuring them of giving jobs in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department (P&RD), Assam.

The Crime Branch officials raided Parashar’s Flat on Friday night and recovered various documents as well as a laptop.

The opposition parties in Assam have been attacking the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government since then, alleging irregularities and corruption in the recruitment process.

The Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has said that the anomalies in job recruitments by the state government has come to light. Saikia claimed that several Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and ministers are running job syndicates.

“There are brokers of the BJP leaders who have been running these syndicates and one can easily get a job by paying money to these brokers. I demand an enquiry by a sitting judge of the Gauhati High Court into all recruitments made in the last four-and-half years,” he added.

According to the PTI, multiple agencies of the Assam police have arrested more than 50 people including retired DIG Prasanta Kumar Dutta, senior police officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna, the brother of Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, and BJP leader Diban Deka who was later expelled from the party, in connection with the police exam paper leak scam.
