India: COVID-9 cases pass 8.3 million

With 50,210 fresh cases in a single day, the COVID-19 tally in India surged past 8.3 million,according to latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

The death toll in the second most hit country stood at 124,315 after over 700 deaths were registered on Thursday.

Total cured cases in India are 77,11,809 with 55,331 new discharges in the last 24 hrs. Total active cases are 5,27,962.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.49 per cent.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 11,42,08,384 samples have been tested up to November 4, with 12,09,425 samples being tested on Wednesday.

Kerala continued to report the highest number of fresh infections in the country, with 8,516 cases.

The United States continued to remain the worst-affected followed by India.

More than 99,000 coronavirus cases were recorded in the poll-bound United States in the past 24 hours, a new daily record, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The overall number of global coronavirus cases was nearing the 48 million mark, while the deaths have surged to more than 1,223,450, according to the Johns Hopkins University. As of Thursday morning, the total caseload and death toll stood at 47,997,816 and 1,223,456, respectively, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
