Coronavirus cases in India brach 8.5 million mark

India on Sunday recorded 45,684 fresh coronavirus cases, pushing the tally in the country to 8.5 million according to health ministry’s data.

The death toll rose by 559 to 1,26,121 in the last 24 hours.

The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

There are 5,12,665 active cases and 78,68,968 recoveries. Totally tally in the country is 85,07,754.

The case fatality rate stands at 1.48 per cent.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has tested 11,77,36,791 samples so far.

11,94,487 samples being tested on Saturday.

Delhi Health minister Satyendar Jain said the capital city Delhi has hit peak of third wave of COVID-19 and the cases will come down soon.

According to Jain, Third wave of coronavirus pandemic in Delhi is the worst so far.

Mumbai reported 576 new cases, the lowest in almost six months.
