“Around 4.10 crore votes were cast, 92 lakh votes counted so far. Earlier there used to be 25-26 rounds of counting, this time it went up to around 35 rounds. So the counting will continue till late evening,” Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar, HR Srinivas said.
Later poll panel told media over 1 crore votes have been counted so far.
“Close to 63% increase in the number of polling booths and the electors have been reduced to 1,000 from 1,500 in each booth due to Covid,” Election Commission said.
EC also said it hopes to finish the counting by tonight as per the procedure.
The closely fought elections saw incumbent Nitish Kumar, who is heading the NDA, take on the Tejashwi Yadav-led Grand Alliance.
As per the latest trends, the NDA has gained an edge in the state and could be on course to retain power.
Ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seems to be racing ahead with leads in 129 seats. The RJD-led Grand Alliance has a lead on 103 seats.
