Coronavirus: New York will limit private gatherings to 10 people

The United States confirmed its highest 24 hours total to date – with a world record of 136,000 coronavirus cases confirmed in one day.

At least 1,448 new coronavirus deaths were reported in US in past 24 hours.

The US has recorded more than 1 million new coronavirus infections in just the past 10 days as the national total soared past 10 million cases amid a widespread surge.

Texas became the first US state with more than 1 million confirmed COVID-19 cases.

California is also closing in on one million mark as a surge of coronavirus infections engulfs the country from coast to coast.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced new curbs on Wednesday. According to new restrictions, restaurants, bars and gyms will have to close at 10 p.m. across New York state, and people will also be barred from hosting private gatherings with more than 10 people.
