COVID-19: India close to 9 million cases

India has added another 45,576 new cases of the COVID-19 infections, taking its total tally to 8.96 million, data from the health ministry said on Thursday.

Of the 89,58,484 infections, active cases dropped to 4,43,303, while as many as 8.3 million people have been discharged.

Deaths rose by 585, with the total now at 131,578.

India has the world’s second-highest number of COVID-19 infections, after the United States.

Maharashtra continues to remain the most affected state, according to the Union Health Ministry’s latest update

Capital city Delhi’s coronavirus tally climbed to over 500,000 after 7,486 fresh cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

With 131 new fatalities, the highest single-day death count till date, toll mounted to 7,943 in Delhi.
