Punjab Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh lashed out at the BJP government in Haryana for stopping farmer protesters from moving towards Delhi, saying the use of “brute force” against them is “totally undemocratic and unconstitutional.”

Why is Manohar Lal khattar government in Haryana stopping the farmers from moving to Delhi? The tyrannical use of brute force against peacefully protesting farmers is totally undemocratic and unconstitutional,” said Singh in a tweet.

Singh further asked: . “Why is Haryana govt provoking them by resorting to force? Don’t the farmers have the right to pass peacefully through a public highway?”

Haryana police has completely sealed its borders with Punjab to prevent farmer protesters from entering the state for their ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march against the Centre’s recent farm laws.

Thousands of protesting farmers on Thursday assembled at various places along the Haryana borders in Punjab amid mounting tension.

The protest is call by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh and various factions of the Bharatiya Kisan Union.

Delhi chief minister also condemned the BJP government’s attitude against protesters and supported the farmers rally, saying peaceful demonstration was a constitutional right of the farmers.

“It is absolutely wrong that farmers are being prevented from holding peaceful demonstrations against the Centre’s new farm laws and water cannons are being used on them,” Kejriwal said on Thursday.

Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said: “All the three farming bills of the central government are anti-farmer. Instead of withdrawing them, farmers are being prevented from holding peaceful demonstrations, water canons are being used on them. This is absolutely wrong. Peaceful demonstrations are their constitutional right.”
