Kerala becomes fourth state to announce free rollout of COVID vaccine

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said COVID-19 vaccine will be provided free of cost to everyone in the state.

“No one will be charged for the vaccine and it be provided to the people free of cost. This is the stand of the government,” while addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, CM Pinarayi Vijayan assured.

Earlier, states including Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, have made a similar announcement.

Assam and Puduchchery CMs also have announced free of cost coronavirus vaccines for the people of their states. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has demanded free vaccine for all citizens across the country.

Five vaccine candidates are under different phases of clinical trials in the country.

Kerala recorded 5,949 new COVID-19 cases and 32 deaths on December 12, taking the tally to 6.64 lakh and the toll to 2,594.
