“My son is not thief. Don’t spread rumors,” says mother of Muslim youth killed by Hindu mob in Bihar

“My son is not a thief. All are spreading false rumours. They killed my son,” says grief-stricken Noorjahan, mother of 32 year old Muhammad Alamgir who was beaten to death by a Hindu mob near state capital Patna in Bihar on Wednesday.

The incident took place early Wednesday morning in Phulwarisharif near Patna. Police sources said the the killing was over suspicion of cattle theft, a charge denied by family of deceased.

According to local news portals, Alamgir was tied to a pole and thrashed for more than three hours and then left in the open. Seriously injured Alamgir passed away on Wednesday afternoon in the hospital.

Alamgir survived by his two daughters and wife.

Noorjahan who demanded a fair inquiry into his son’s death, said her son was struggling to keep the family going since he’s the only breadwinner.

“By evening, all hopes of this family shattered, when their sole breadwinner breathed his last,” Touheed Alam, Alamgir’s neighbor told a local media.

“He is not a thief. These milkmen (alleged killers) are spreading false propaganda against a poor Muslim family,” he said.

Six people who were named in the complaint by Alamgir’s mother Noorjahan have been arrested, the police said.

Responding to the new episode of anti-Muslim violence in Bihar, vocal Muslim leader and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that ‘immediately after any Muslim is lynched, a backstory is created that they were killed because of some “suspicion”.

“Immediately after any Muslim is lynched, a backstory is created that they were killed because of some “suspicion”. Somehow, that’s supposed to justify a bunch of cowards torturing & killing a human being. What’s left of your humanity if you see victims as perpetrators?,” tweeted Owaisi.
