The Central government, including the prime minister, is resorting to downright falsehoods to malign the farmers’ struggle, all for the benefit of their corporate masters, alleged Amarjeet Kaur, General Secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) in a statement.

The trade organisation further said AITUC and its associate unions will observe 23 December as “Skip Lunch” day to express solidarity with the relay hunger strike by farmers.

“AITUC Unions to observe 23rd December as ‘Skip Lunch’ day to express solidarity with the relay hunger strike by the joint front of Kisan organisations,” said Kaur.

It also hailed the growing unity between workers and farmers and alleged that the Centre is trying to side-step genuine demands of the farmers.

Meanwhile, the farmer leaders are expected to meet today to discuss the next plan of action, Gurmeet Singh of Krantikari Kisan Union said, amid efforts by the unions to draw support from farmers in other states like Bihar for their demand to enact a law assuring Minimum Support Price.
