Amarjeet Singh Rai, a Jalalabad-based lawyer, died by suicide at Tikri Border by consuming poisonous substance Sunday morning.
In a purported suicide note, Amarjit Singh said he was “sacrificing his life” in support of the farmers’ protest against the centre’s new agri laws so that the government is compelled to listen to the voice of the people.
“Common people like farmers and labourers are feeling defrauded by the three black agricultural laws,” reads the suicide note.
He also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “listen to the voice of the people”.
According to PTI, at least two suicides have been linked to the farmers’ agitation, underway at various border points of Delhi for over a month now.
