On New Year’s Day, US surpasses landmark of 20 million coronavirus infections

The United States marked the first day of 2021 by surpassing the dismal landmark of 20 million coronavirus cases.

US has almost twice as many confirmed coronavirus cases as the next worst-hit country, India.

According to Guardian, more than 10,000 Americans died in the last three days of 2020 as the year finished with the pandemic, which has never been under control in the US since the start of the outbreak last January, breaking all the wrong world records.

In the US, almost 350,000 people have died because of Covid-19, according to the coronavirus resource center at Johns Hopkins University, by far the world’s highest death toll.

Globally, more than 83 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 1.8 million have died so far. Many countries have granted emergency use authorization for COVID-19 vaccines and have started the process of vaccinating healthcare workers and high-risk groups.
