Assam polls: Congress forms Grand Alliance with AIUDF, left parties, Anchalik Gana Morcha

The Congress will join hands with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), the CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML) and the Anchalik Gana Morcha in forthcoming Assam assembly polls.

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday said it will contest the election in alliance to oust the ruling BJP from power.

“Today will be remembered as historic day in Assam politics forever where five political parties, CPM,CPI,CPI(ML), ANCHALIK GANA MORCHA & AIUDF have united with Congress to oust BJP and save Assam,” APCC president Ripun Bora said.

“Our doors are open for all anti-BJP parties and we invite the regional parties to join hands with us against our fight to remove the ruling party from power,” he further said.

While addressing the media, Ripun Bora said the Grand Alliance will have one manifesto.

AIUDF chief and vocal Muslim leader in the state Badruddin Ajmal said the grand alliance believes people of Assam will support it against the anti-Assamese, anti-people regime led by BJP.

Anchalik Gana Morcha is a regional party led by independent Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan.
