India should have 4 rotating capitals: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said India must have four alternative capitals.

“I believe that India must have 4 alternate capitals. The English ruled the entire country from Kolkata. Why should there be only one capital city in our country,” Banerjee said while addressing a rally in Kolkata to mark Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary.

Banerjee also proposed that Centre should reintroduce the Planning Commission which was abolished by the Narendra Modi government.

“Niti Aayog and Planning Commission can co-exist, Centre should reintroduce the panel,” she said.

Bengal leader also claimed that the panel (planning commission) was conceptualised by Subhas Chandra Bose which the Centre has removed now.

She further demanded that the birth anniversary day of Bose be declared a national holiday for the country.

“When Netaji constituted the Indian National Army, he took everyone including people from Gujarat, Bengal, Tamil Nadu. He stood against the divide and rule policy of the British. We will build an Azad Hind Monument. We will show how it will be done. They’ve spent thousands of crores in building statues and a new parliament complex,” said Mamata Banerjee.

Bengal CM’s rally held hours ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event to mark the occasion.
